Marit Helene Hansen

Marit Helene Hansen serves as an Associate Professor II at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, located in Tromsø. She is affiliated with the Breast and Endocrine Surgery Research Group and is a member of the Gastrokirurgi (Gastrosurgery) research group.

Her research focuses on surgical oncology with particular emphasis on breast cancer diagnostics and treatment, as well as endocrine surgery complications. Her work bridges clinical practice with research methodology to improve cancer treatment outcomes.

Her recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory in cancer surgery research, with publications in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment (2025), ESMO Open (2024), and British Journal of Surgery (2021). These works examine lymph node marking techniques, genomic testing impact on treatment decisions, and surgical complications in thyroid cancer.

Dr. Hansen collaborates extensively with international researchers across Europe, as evidenced by her multicenter studies including the AXSANA (EUBREAST-03) trial and EMIT-1 study.
