Marios Adonis

Marios Adonis serves as an Associate Professor of Clinical Health Psychology and Head of the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Nicosia's School of Humanities and Social Sciences. With extensive clinical training in prestigious US medical institutions including Mount Sinai Hospital and Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital, he maintains an active role in both academia and clinical practice.

Recent studies investigate the protective role of self-compassion in trauma recovery, the relationship between future expectancies and psychological well-being, and the psychological impacts of social isolation and loneliness.

Dr. Adonis maintains significant professional service roles, including membership on the Cyprus Mental Health Commission and the Disciplinary Committee of the Cyprus Psychologists' Registration Council. He has served multiple terms on the executive council of the Cyprus Anti-Drug Council, represented Cyprus at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and participated in the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction.

As Clinical Supervisor for a substance dependence rehabilitation center in Cyprus, he bridges academic research with clinical practice, ensuring his work maintains practical relevance to mental health challenges in the community.
