Marion Digel

Prof. Marion Digel is a faculty member at Folkwang University of the Arts, affiliated with Faculty 4 (Design) at the Zollverein World Heritage Site Campus. She serves as Professor for Basic Design in the Bachelor's program Product Design and for the field of FORM & CONTEXT in the Master's program Design Futures. Additionally, she holds the role of Faculty Equal Opportunity Representative for Faculty 4.

Her research and teaching focus on the cultural, semantic, and emotional meanings of designed objects, design value systems, and the evolving perception of human environments. Through foundational and project-based seminars, she explores creative phenomena, design methods, and the interplay between form and social, cultural, and intercultural contexts. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes experimentation, critical thinking, and the development of production-ready design prototypes.

The recent research project FUTURE DESIGN PERSPECTIVES - International Student Ambassadors investigates the ongoing relevance of 20th-century Modernism for contemporary design challenges, engaging students in global discourse. These initiatives often involve collaboration with industrial and cultural institutions, emphasizing didactic, experimental, and research-based outcomes.

Her publications and projects reflect a strong commitment to design education, critical design inquiry, and the transformation of theoretical concepts into tangible design solutions. The work demonstrates a consistent engagement with design history, aesthetics, and the social responsibility of designers.
