Dr Marine Joly is an Associate Professor in Cognitive Ethology at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of Psychology, Sport and Health Sciences and the Centre for Comparative and Evolutionary Psychology. She holds roles as co-director of the Centre for Comparative and Evolutionary Psychology (since 2020) and has been PI of the 'Macacognitum' project (2014–2016), investigating social style impacts on cognitive skills in monkeys. Her research focuses on evolutionary dynamics of primate behavior and intelligence, particularly sociality-cognition links, socioecology, executive functions, and foraging decisions. She collaborates with institutions like Monkey Haven (UK), CERZA (France), and international universities.
Teaching responsibilities include coordinating 'Individual Differences and Psychometrics' for psychology programs, contributing to 'Cultural Psychology,' and mentoring students in final-year projects. She promotes open science through projects like ManyPrimates and MacaqueNet. Research areas for students include cognition in wild primates, socioecology, and Madagascar/Indonesian fieldwork.
Her work spans experimental and field studies, emphasizing cross-species comparisons and collaborative methodologies.
