Marin Clark is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Michigan (U-M), within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). His research focuses on the interplay between topography, tectonic deformation, and natural hazards, particularly in mountainous regions. He earned a Ph.D. in Geology from MIT in 2003. Key research areas include landslide dynamics, earthquake impacts, geomorphic processes, and thermochronology.
Clark's work employs field geology, geodynamic modeling, and remote sensing techniques, such as UAV-based photogrammetry. He co-led the LHASA 2.0 software team, which won NASA's 2023 Software of the Year Award for improving landslide hazard assessments. His recent projects include studying Nepal's 2015 Gorkha earthquake landslides and Puerto Rico's rainfall-triggered landslide risks. He also investigates the role of erosion and weathering in mountain-building processes.
