Marika Mägi is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for History, Archaeology and Art History, Tallinn University. She is an archaeologist and historian specializing in social archaeology and late prehistoric/early medieval communication in Northern Europe.
Her research encompasses communication routes, maritime cultural landscapes, central places, burials, rituals and cult places, and social/gender-specific relations in early societies, primarily focusing on the 7th-14th century period though extending to earlier eras through excavation work. She possesses comprehensive expertise in Northern and Baltic archaeology including Finland.
With extensive international experience from research projects and residence in Sweden and Denmark, Dr. Mägi leads SA Osiliana—a research group collaborating with Tallinn University to investigate the archaeology and early written history of Estonian islands, particularly Saaremaa—demonstrating her active leadership in regional archaeological studies.
