Marija Jovanovic is a Senior Lecturer at Essex Law School, University of Essex. She holds a DPhil, MPhil, and MJur from the University of Oxford and completed postdoctoral work at the National University of Singapore.
Her scholarship examines human trafficking, modern slavery, and the intersection of business operations with human rights. Publications consistently address legal frameworks for victim protection, state responsibility, and regional policy development. Recent work (2023-2024) critiques implementation gaps in anti-slavery regimes and carceral system responsibilities.
