Dr. Marie Segares is an Associate Professor in the Department of Business Administration at Champlain College's Stiller School of Business. She specializes in Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, and Leadership & Management. Her career spans roles in non-profit health organizations, public education, and academic leadership. Dr. Segares holds an AB in Sociology (Barnard College), MPH in Sociomedical Sciences (Columbia University), MBA in Entrepreneurship (NYU), and EdD in Organizational Leadership (Northeastern University).
Her research focuses on artisan entrepreneurship, creative business models, microenterprise resilience, and gender diversity in organizational leadership. She has taught across multiple institutions, including St. Francis College and Molloy College, and has developed academic programs such as an online bachelor’s degree-completion initiative. Dr. Segares also operates as an artisan entrepreneur, creating digital content for craft manufacturers and publishers.
Her scholarship bridges theory and practice, with recent work analyzing entrepreneurial responses to crises like the 2020 pandemic. Her teaching spans traditional, online, and hybrid formats, emphasizing experiential learning. She has contributed to the design of curricula in management, organizational behavior, and health care administration.
Publications include studies on mask-making during COVID-19, family business dynamics, and crowdfunding strategies. She is actively involved in global Appreciative Inquiry initiatives and serves on editorial boards for academic journals.
