Marie Piraud

Marie Piraud is the Head of the AI Consultant Team at Helmholtz AI, Helmholtz Munich, and a Guest Researcher at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). She holds a background in theoretical physics and bridges this expertise with biomedical research, focusing on medical computer vision, deep learning, and statistical modeling. Her work integrates model-based approaches with machine learning to address challenges in healthcare and emphasizes ecological considerations in AI development.

She leads initiatives at Helmholtz AI to empower health researchers with AI tools, developing open-source solutions and training programs. Her research explores multi-scale systems, survival analysis, and bridging biophysical models with medical observations. She collaborates across disciplines, contributing to labs like DHM, IFL Lab, and NARVIS Lab.

Teaching includes courses such as Computer Aided Medical Procedures, Medical Augmented Reality, and Innovation Generation in Healthcare. She actively promotes AI democratization and ethical, ecological AI practices.
