Marie Barnard

Marie Barnard is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Administration and Research Associate Professor at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, serving as Acting Associate Dean for Graduate Programs. She holds dual appointments in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Public Health. Dr. Barnard earned her PhD in Pharmaceutical Science (2012) and M.S. in Epidemiology (2000) from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center and American University, respectively. Her research focuses on social/behavioral determinants of health, vaccination behavior, implementation science, and health sciences education pipeline development. She leads the NIH-funded Project SCORE and the DIRECT Program’s Summer Bridge Initiative, fostering youth engagement in health sciences careers.

Her research team studies HPV vaccination strategies, intimate partner violence intervention in pharmacies, and opioid misuse prevention. She has secured over 50 grants as PI/co-PI, emphasizing community pharmacy interventions and healthcare system improvements. Dr. Barnard is affiliated with the Sarah Isom Center for Women & Gender Studies and serves as Graduate Program Coordinator for Pharmacy Administration.

Notable achievements include the Distinguished Cotton Lecturer title and leadership in developing the DIRECT Program, which addresses graduate student professional development needs. Her work integrates participatory action research and program evaluation methodologies to address health disparities and educational inequities.
