Marianne Cohen is a Professor at Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris 4) with an HDR in Geography and Biogeography, affiliated with CNU/CNRS Section 22/39. She serves as Director of the Multi-training Plan (PPF) Pôle Image and Head of the Master 2 Geography and Territorial Sciences program at Université Paris Diderot, while holding committee roles for Physio-Géo journal and the French National Committee of Geography.
Her research centers on nature-society interactions, landscape sustainability, and urban-nature dynamics, with fieldwork focused on Mediterranean oases, Maghreb cultural landscapes, and Moroccan palm groves. Methodologically, she employs biogeographic field surveys, GIS/geomatics tools (ECognition, Fragstat), and multivariate statistics to analyze resource management and stakeholder perceptions.
Professor Cohen actively supervises nine doctoral candidates across ecological anthropology and landscape conservation topics, including Mediterranean dehesas, Ugandan chimpanzee habitats, and Malagasy agricultural systems. She co-directs Ladyss research axis 3 on environmental paradigms and contributes to the GIS Draix Mountain Erosion network, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to socio-ecological challenges.
