Marianna Giuffrida

Marianna Giuffrida is a Full Professor of Agricultural Law at the Department of Law, University of Messina, where she teaches Agricultural Law, Agri-food Business Law, Food System Law, and Food Legislation across multiple degree programs and campuses. She has held this position since November 1, 2005, following previous appointments as Full Professor at the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria (2003-2005) and Associate Professor at the same institution (1998-2003).

Professor Giuffrida earned her Law degree from the University of Messina in 1987 with top honors and was admitted to the Bar Association of Messina in 1991. She completed her PhD in Italian and Comparative Agricultural Law in 1992. Her academic career began as a researcher at the University of Messina in 1991, where she was confirmed in her role in 1994 before moving to Reggio Calabria and eventually returning to Messina.

Her research spans agricultural law, food law, and agri-food business law, with particular focus on European Agricultural Policy (PAC), food safety regulations, quality certification systems, and gender equality in agriculture. Recent publications examine liability for defective food products, traditional agri-food products, hygiene regulations, and the role of women in agricultural policy. Her scholarly output includes over one hundred publications and two monographs.

Professor Giuffrida serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Agricultural Law and 'Agricoltura Istituzioni Mercati,' and is a member of the scientific committee of the online Journal of Food Law. She is affiliated with several professional organizations including the Institute of International and Comparative Agricultural Law, the Italian Association of Agricultural Law Experts, and the Italian Association of Food Law.

Administratively, she has served as Director of the Department of Private Law and Theory of Law (2007-2013), Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Law (2015-2018), and scientific director of a PRIN 2008 research project. She was elected to the Board of Directors of the CSDA (Scientific Community of Agricultural Law) for 2024-2027.
