Marian Wong

Dr. Marian Wong is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Wollongong’s School of Earth, Atmospheric and Life Sciences (SEALS). Her research focuses on behavioral ecology and conservation behavior of social fishes, particularly examining how abiotic stressors impact social organization and group dynamics. She has held this position since 2013 and actively collaborates with institutions like McMaster University and James Cook University.

Her work integrates field observations, genetic analyses, and physiological studies to address questions about cooperation, conflict, and environmental adaptation in fish societies. Current research includes studying invasive species impacts, coral reef fish mutualisms, and the Fitzroy Falls Spiny Crayfish conservation.

Dr. Wong has secured multiple grants (e.g., NSW Environmental Trust, Sea World Research Foundation) and supervises numerous PhD students. She leads a lab investigating topics like social networks in animal groups and the evolutionary drivers of social behavior.
