Dr. Marian Azab is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of History Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of New Mexico (2020), an M.A. in Social Justice and Human Rights from Arizona State University (2011), a B.A. in Sociology from California State University, Long Beach (2009), and an A.A. in Sociology from Golden West Community College (2007).
Research Interests: Dr. Azab's interdisciplinary work examines how racialization, patriarchy, and oppression shape lived experiences of marginalized groups in the United States and the Arab world. Her research specifically analyzes emotions, resistance mechanisms, and community engagement strategies among minoritized populations, with applied focus on social justice frameworks.
Teaching: She designs community-facing courses including Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Introduction to Diversity Studies, Immigration, Medical Sociology, Social Inequalities, and Race and Ethnic Studies, emphasizing critical examination of social structures and student empowerment.
