About
Prof. Dr. Maria Robles is a full Professor and Head of the Systems Chronobiology research group at the Institute of Medical Psychology, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), Faculty of Medicine. She leads a dynamic research lab focused on circadian rhythms, sleep, and their molecular underpinnings in health and disease, using cutting-edge quantitative proteomics and mass spectrometry as core methodologies.
Her research spans multiple domains, including
- Circadian regulation of metabolism
- Molecular mechanisms of sleep and synaptic function
- Circadian clock dysfunction in diseases such as pancreatic cancer
- Development of novel proteomic methods (e.g., DIA, multi-omics integration)
The analysis of her 15 most recent publications reveals a strong trend toward integrating proteomics with systems biology to dissect temporal dynamics in mammalian tissues. Her work frequently explores post-translational modifications, particularly phosphorylation and ubiquitination, in circadian and sleep contexts, with increasing translational focus on cancer biology and therapeutic targeting.
She actively mentors PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, contributing to training the next generation of scientists in chronobiology and proteomics.
Her lab is affiliated with the Biomedical Center (BMC) at LMU and is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation, including Orbitrap and Q-Exactive mass spectrometers, supported by DFG and LMU funding. She collaborates extensively, notably with Dieter Saur (TUM) on pancreatic cancer research.
