About
Maria Piarulli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at Washington University. Her research focuses on ab-initio studies of atomic nuclei structure, nuclear reactions, and nucleonic matter equation of state using chiral effective field theory approaches and Quantum Monte Carlo methods.
Her work explores complex quantum many-body systems exhibiting shell structure, pairing, superfluidity, deformation, and clustering phenomena. Research interests include:
- Theoretical frameworks for nuclear interactions
- Electroweak current development
- Structure and scattering of atomic nuclei
- Neutrino-nucleus interactions
Piarulli completed her education at the University of Pisa (undergraduate and master's) and earned her PhD from Old Dominion University. She previously served as a postdoctoral fellow at Argonne National Laboratory.
