About
Maria Perez-Page is a Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester since May 2020. She holds a BEng, MSc, and PhD (Cum Laude) in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain. Her postdoctoral research included work at the University of California, Davis (2013-2016) and a subsequent role as Research Associate at the University of Manchester under Prof. Stuart Holmes.
Her research focuses on developing high-selectivity membranes and catalysts for electrochemical energy devices. Key areas include functionalized graphene oxide composites for membranes in fuel cells, redox flow batteries, and electrolysers, as well as 2D materials for enhancing reaction efficiency. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to affordable clean energy and climate action.
- Research Interests: Electrochemical membranes, 2D materials, ion-exchange membranes, fuel cell efficiency, water desalination, gas separation
- Recent Advances: Innovations in PVDF nanofiber membranes for desalination, durable proton exchange membranes using PIMs, and CO2/CH4 separation using ionic liquid membranes
Her publications (2025) address platinum group metal separation using deep eutectic solvents, hydrogen storage implications, and membrane distillation optimizations. She leads the Fuel Cell Lab and has collaborated internationally on advanced materials and energy projects.
