Maria Panagioti is Professor and PhD Chair at the University of Manchester, leading research on patient safety and mental healthcare. She directs projects on quality of care, healthcare workforce wellbeing, and global mental health interventions.
With over 130 publications including in BMJ and JAMA, her work influences WHO and NICE policies. She leads multi-million pound research programs including an NIHR-funded rehabilitation initiative in Pakistan and the Safer Care Systems theme at the NIHR Greater Manchester Patient Safety Translational Research Centre.
Methodologically, she specializes in systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and randomized controlled trials. She serves as WHO Expert Advisor on Patient Safety and leads the Division's Mental Health Research Theme.
