Maria Luisa Fischer

Dr. Maria Luisa Fischer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Romance Languages at Hunter College's School of Arts and Sciences. Her academic career focuses on Latin American literature, particularly Chilean poetry and political discourse in literary contexts. She holds a PhD in Hispanic Language and Literature from Boston University (1992) and a Licenciatura en Literatura from Universidad de Chile (1985).

Her research spans topics like political violence in literature, memory construction, and poetic responses to historical trauma. Key publications analyze works by Nobel laureates (Pablo Neruda) and contemporary authors (Roberto Bolaño, Raúl Zurita), revealing intersections between literary critique and socio-political realities. She has authored two books on Neruda's cultural legacy and Cisneros/Pacheco/Lihn's poetic frameworks.
