Maria João Maia is a Researcher at the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). She leads the CLIMOS project on climate-driven disease surveillance and co-supervised a dissertation on Responsible AI at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Her work spans health technology assessment, medical robotics, and responsible innovation.

Scientific Leadership includes coordinating the Portuguese TA network's Health TA Working Group and contributing to EU standards for responsible innovation. She advises on CLIMOS climate-health policy and CoCoAI medical AI frameworks, with grants from Horizon Europe and KIT.
