Maria Isabel Linan

Maria Isabel Linan serves as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Our Lady of the Lake University, where she has dedicated over two decades to undergraduate mathematics education. Based in Metz Hall, Room 112A, she holds a Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Texas at San Antonio and is recognized for her curriculum development expertise across foundational to advanced mathematical disciplines.

Dr. Linan's pedagogical approach centers on discovery-based learning to connect mathematical concepts with real-world problem solving. She emphasizes developing students' intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual capabilities through diverse methodologies including inductive/deductive reasoning, cooperative learning, and research projects. Her expertise spans Algebra, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, and Mathematics Education, with particular focus on making abstract concepts accessible through practical applications.

Her exemplary institutional service was honored with the Stell-Ball Award in 2021 for 20 years of full-time faculty contributions. Additional professional recognition includes serving as an NSF panelist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching since 2016, and judging regional science fairs at Alamo, John Jay, and Young Women's Leadership Academy events.

Actively mentoring students in academic and career planning, Dr. Linan extends her leadership beyond campus as a cultural ambassador for Peru. She directs both the San Antonio branch of the International Club Libertad de Trujillo Marinera and the Peruvian folkloric dance group Tusuy kusun Peru, promoting traditional arts and cultural exchange throughout the San Antonio community.
