Maria Isabel Alonso

Dr. Maria Isabel Alonso is a Research Scientist at the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), where she has been a Tenured Scientist since 1996 and head of the NANOPTO group since 2006. She leads the Molecular Beam Epitaxy Laboratory, focusing on semiconductor materials science, nanostructures, and photonics. Her research bridges epitaxial thin film growth (SiGe-based molecular beam epitaxy) and optical spectroscopy techniques like ellipsometry, Raman scattering, and photoluminescence.

Education: PhD (Dr. rer. Nat.) from the University of Stuttgart (1989), with postdoctoral work at the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research and Paul-Drude-Institute for Solid State Electronics. Her research emphasizes nanostructured optoelectronics, thermoelectric materials, and thermal transport at nanoscale. Active in grants since 1992, with ongoing projects on photonic architectures, CO2 conversion, and thermoelectric materials.

Recent work includes plasmonic metasurfaces, chiral nanoparticles, and CsPbBr3 nanocrystal studies. She has supervised over 50 publications since 2018, contributing to advanced photonics, nanomaterials characterization, and energy applications.
