Maria Ines Canto Carrillo

María Inés Canto Carrillo is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Colorado State University specializing in Mexican literature by women and Latin American feminism. She holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research examines narrative, poetry, and theater through feminist frameworks, with additional expertise in Mexican Avant-Garde photography.

Her current research project investigates contemporary theater groups in Yucatán that recover women's political and Indigenous history during the 19th-20th centuries. She has organized Day of the Dead events (2022-2024) exploring cultural connections between life and death. Her publications analyze literary representations of pleasure, artistic photography criticism, Indigenous resistance mechanisms, and feminist cartography.
