Maria Grazia Viola

Maria Grazia Viola is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Lakehead University, with a status-only appointment at the University of Toronto since 2022. Her research spans operator algebras, free probability, and related structural and classification problems in C*-algebras.

Dr. Viola has published extensively on topics such as twisted groupoid C*-algebras, Lp operator algebras, and K-theory. Her work often intersects with von Neumann algebras, subfactor theory, and planar algebras.

She supervises postdoctoral fellows and graduate students, including Ph.D. co-supervision with Professor George Elliott at the University of Toronto. Dr. Viola has organized major conferences like Women in Operator Algebras and contributed to outreach via the Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest.
