Maria Gonzalez Davis

Maria Gonzalez Davis is a Teaching Professor of Spanish at Oxford College of Emory University. She teaches beginner to advanced Spanish courses, including Early Hispanic Texts and Contexts, Modern Hispanic Texts and Contexts, and Theater, Film and Performing Art, and leads a Discovery Seminar on Fantasy and the Supernatural in Literature. Davis directs the Emory Summer Study Abroad Program in Spain and has organized numerous Hispanic cultural events and film festivals.

• BA in English (1997) and MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (2002) from Salamanca University, Spain
• PhD in American Literature (2002) and Latin American Literature (2010) from Salamanca University and Las Palmas University

Her research spans Latin American and American literature, focusing on the Latin American Boom writers and twentieth-century American theater. She also explores comparative literature, film noir, and pedagogical innovations like integrating WIMBA voice tools into language instruction. Her publications analyze feminist metaphors, cultural humor, and cinematic influences on literature.

Scientific and academic honors include being the first woman to have her name placed on the wall of the historical building 'Residencia Fray Luis de León' at the University of Salamanca (2015). Davis has received multiple grants for conference attendance and curriculum development, including a $3,300 Academic Dean's grant for an exploratory trip to Spain (2017).

She frequently mentors students through independent studies and the Oxford Research Scholars program, emphasizing interdisciplinary learning and cultural immersion. Davis is a member of the Modern Language Association and Feministas Unidas.
