Maria Giaever

Maria Giaever is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster’s Department of Sociology, where she teaches modules such as 'London Explored', 'Research Methods in Sociology and Criminology', and 'Controversies in Criminal Justice'. She is also pursuing a PhD in Sociology at the same institution, focusing on the Palestinian electronic music scene, exploring themes of resistance, affect, class, and mobility.

Her academic background includes an MSc in Social Sciences Research Methods from the University of Bristol (2013–2018) and a double BA in Law and Political Science from the University of Valencia (2013–2018). Her research interests center on popular culture, power dynamics, and resistance, particularly in non-regulated spaces like DIY electronic music and dance scenes.

Her publication in Crossings: Journal of Migration & Culture (2022) examines free parties and migration in urban nightscapes, highlighting intersectional themes of marginalization and cultural expression. She is affiliated with the Centre for the Study of Democracy at the University of Westminster.
