Dr. Maria Gancheva is an NHMRC Grant-Funded Researcher (A) at the University of Adelaide, affiliated with the School of Animal and Veterinary Science and the Department of Molecular and Biomedical Science. She leads drug development studies for parasitic diseases in collaboration with Neoculi Pty Ltd under Associate Professor Danny Wilson's laboratory. Her research focuses on novel therapies for Plasmodium spp. (malaria) and Toxoplasma gondii, addressing critical global health and livestock challenges.
Dr. Gancheva holds a PhD in Medicine from the University of Adelaide, where her doctoral work explored neural reprogramming of dental pulp stem cells for neurological disease treatments. She also completed a First-Class Honours degree in Health Sciences and a BSc in Biomedical Science (Biochemistry/Microbiology).
Her expertise bridges parasitology and translational medicine, with emphasis on developing safe, effective drugs against drug-resistant parasites. She is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students.
