Maria Febbo is a Lecturer of Sociology at Duke University since 2022, affiliated with the Department of Sociology within Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University (2003). Her academic experience includes roles as Visiting Assistant Professor (2011–2015) and Associate Director of the Markets & Management Studies Certificate Program (2024–2025). She previously served as Instructor of Sociology at Duke (2017–2022).
Her teaching focuses on criminology, social problems, and research methodologies. Courses include Controlling Women: Women, Crime, & Social Control, Juvenile Delinquency, and Methods of Social Research. She directed the Sociology Honors Thesis Program from 2017 to 2023 and currently advises undergraduate students.
Her professional service includes mentoring roles such as Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Faculty Mentor (2023–2024) and participation in Duke’s Undergraduate Committee since 2017. She also contributed to the Penny Pilgram George Women's Leadership Initiative (2022–2023).
