Maria Dolores Ponce Sanchez

Maria Dolores Ponce Sanchez is a Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of Murcia’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Her research focuses on human geography, tourism modeling, and territorial dynamics, with a particular emphasis on coastal and rural regions in the Murcia area. She holds a PhD from the University of Murcia, awarded in 2003 for her thesis on tourism perception models in San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar.

Her work explores themes such as urbanization impacts, tourism competitiveness, resort perception, and agrotourism development. She has contributed to understanding the socio-economic dynamics of destinations like the Mar Menor coastal area and rural interior regions. Her publications analyze topics ranging from MICE tourism in Murcia to the transformation of tourism models in coastal zones.

Dr. Ponce Sanchez is affiliated with the COLUMNARIA research group (History and Territorial Dynamics of the Iberian Worlds) and previously contributed to the Dinámicas Territoriales group. Her research integrates methodological approaches from geography, tourism studies, and spatial analysis to address contemporary challenges in regional development and cultural landscape preservation.
