Maria Diemling

Maria Diemling serves as Reader in Jewish-Christian Relations and Course Director for the MA Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care at Canterbury Christ Church University within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Media and Creative Digital and Department of Theology and Religious Studies. She joined the institution in September 2006 after prior academic roles at Trinity College Dublin and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Her research centers on early modern Judaism with specific emphasis on Jewish-Christian relations and historical perceptions of Jews, alongside contemporary explorations of Jewish identity diversity. She teaches extensively across undergraduate and graduate curricula focusing on Judaism, religious studies, and sacred texts, drawing from her secondary school-initiated passion for Jewish history and culture.

Dr. Diemling actively supervises postgraduate research and serves as primary contact for prospective students in the MA Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care program, maintaining engagement through scholarly publications, conference presentations, and peer review activities.
