Maria Chiara Migliore is an Associate Professor of Japanese Language and Literature (L-OR/22) at the University of Salento (Lecce, Italy), Department of Humanities. She also holds a Non-Resident Senior Research Fellowship at Daitō Bunka University (Tokyo) and is a member of the International Ph.D. Program in 'Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures and Cultures'. Her research focuses on classical Japanese literature and philology, particularly texts reflecting cultural adoption of Chinese models. She has organized major international conferences like the 15th EAJS (2017) and the 12th EAJS (2008).
Education: Ph.D. in Far Eastern Civilizations from University of Naples 'L'Orientale' (1996), with specialization in Japanese legal history. Multiple scholarships include the Japan Foundation (2005), Monbushō (1984-86), and postdoctoral grants in Naples and Kyoto.
Research Interests: Classical Japanese texts (especially Nihon ryōiki and Man’yōshū), Sinicization processes in medieval Japan, textual criticism, and historical linguistics. She actively collaborates with universities in Kyoto, Tokyo, and Yokohama through ERASMUS and bilateral agreements.
