Maria Cernat

Maria Cernat is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Communication Sciences and International Relations, Titu Maiorescu University, in the Department of Communication and Public Relations. She concurrently serves as President of the Institute for Media Research and Human Rights and is an associate member of the Centre for Action, Resources and Training in Academic Integrity (CARFIA) at the University of Bucharest.

Education:

• Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, University of Bucharest (2004)
• Master of Arts in Journalism and Communication Sciences (2002)
• PhD in Philosophy (2008)

Her research explores ethics, academic integrity, feminism, and critical theory, with applied focus on gender representation in media, advertising, and public discourse. She teaches courses including Critical Media Studies, Discourse Analysis, Ethics and Professional Deontology, Digital Design, and Nation Branding.

Professor Cernat actively supervises undergraduate and master's dissertations on gender stereotypes, media representation, and ethical communication. She engages in academic integrity advocacy and feminist activism through institutional roles and public scholarship.

Beyond academia, she co-hosts the political podcast On the Barricades, contributes to independent journalism cooperatives (Baricada.org), and volunteers at the FILIA Centre for Curriculum Development and Gender Studies, participating in debates on gender-based violence and educational reform.
