Maria Bigoni

Maria Bigoni is a Full Professor of Political Economy at the Department of Economic Sciences, University of Bologna. She holds a PhD in Economics, Markets, and Institutions from IMT Lucca (2008). Her research focuses on experimental and behavioral economics, particularly cooperation in social dilemmas, economic inequality effects, and child development. She has been a visiting scholar at institutions like the Stockholm School of Economics and Purdue University. She teaches Behavioral and Experimental Economics at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.

Her academic career includes roles as Deputy Director of the Department (2021–2024), PhD Program Coordinator (2019–2022), and editorial positions for journals like the Journal of the Economic Science Association. She leads projects on inequality, child development, and monetary networks, funded through grants like SIR 2015 and PRIN 2017. She is a CEPR fellow and IZA research affiliate.

Research highlights include studies on cooperation dynamics, monetary systems' role in trust, and the North-South cooperation gap in Italy. Her work appears in top journals like Econometrica and Journal of Monetary Economics. She advises students and actively participates in academic governance and policy-related research.
