Maria Balouktsi

Maria Balouktsi is a postdoctoral researcher at Aalborg University's Department of the Built Environment, within the Faculty of Engineering and Science. Her work focuses on sustainability in the built environment through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies.

• Key projects: IEA EBC Annex 89 (net-zero whole life carbon buildings), Nordic harmonization of LCA methods
• Specializations: Greenhouse gas emissions, embodied carbon, carbon storage in wood products

Recent research explores decarbonization of building stocks and harmonized carbon limit values across Nordic countries. She contributes to regulatory frameworks for sustainable construction and participates in international conferences like WSBE and CESB.

Scientific awards include Best Paper Awards at CESB16 (2016), SBE19 (2019), and the 2022 Applied Energy Highly Cited Paper Award.
