About
Maria Albin is an Associate Professor at Lund University, affiliated with the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine. She is also part of EpiHealth: Epidemiology for Health and the Environmental Epidemiology research group. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being, and sustainable cities and communities.
Her research focuses on occupational and environmental exposures, including studies on hexavalent chromium toxicity, transportation noise impacts on health, and biomonitoring of occupational hazards. She collaborates internationally and has published over 189 peer-reviewed articles. Key research areas include occupational epidemiology, environmental carcinogenesis, and the health effects of air pollutants.
Albin has led or contributed to projects such as 'Healthy Workplaces for All Ages' and 'NanoSafety,' investigating aging workers' health, nanomaterial safety, and sustainable working conditions. She actively participates in public debates on occupational safety, such as media discussions about pandemic-era workplace protections.
Her recent work highlights the health risks of transportation noise (e.g., atrial fibrillation, obesity) and occupational exposures (e.g., welding fumes, asbestos). She employs epidemiological methods to link environmental factors with chronic diseases, emphasizing prevention strategies in occupational settings.
