Maria Abertos

Maria Abertos is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), serving since 2012. She concurrently holds the role of Director of Students, effective July 2024. Her academic background includes a BA (History, Philosophy, Politics)/LLB, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, and an LLM in Criminal Law and Criminology from the University of New South Wales. Admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia, she is also a practicing solicitor and Principal of MPA Lawyers, specializing in litigation, wills/estates, property, and criminal law since 2008.

Her teaching focuses on Real Property, Civil Practice, and Torts, including the course Real Property Law 70317. Previously, she contributed to Practical Legal Training (PLT) at UTS (2012–2022). She is a member of The Law Society of New South Wales.

Maria has received notable awards, including the 2024 Lyndal Taylor and Emma Holt Teaching Award and the 2023 Team Award for Excellence in Teaching. Her work bridges academic instruction and professional legal practice, emphasizing student support and experiential learning.
