Mari Sanchez

Mari (Kauyumari) Sanchez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Cal Poly Humboldt. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of California, Riverside, and completed her B.A. in Psychology at California State University, Fresno, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors.

• Specializes in speech perception, production, and memory with focus on auditory/visual speech and social factors in speech changes
• Conducts research in the Cognition Lab (Behavioral & Social Sciences Room 410)

Her teaching philosophy emphasizes active learning through Bloom’s Taxonomy, integrating real-life examples and social justice implications. She prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion by encouraging students to connect course material to their lived experiences.
