Dr Margurite Hook is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the Newcastle Business School (University of Newcastle) and Program Convenor for the Bachelor of Business program. She holds a PhD in Management from the University of Newcastle, alongside dual bachelor’s degrees in Business and Commerce from the same institution. Her research focuses on experimental methods to decode customer behavior, with specializations in brand communities, tourism, digital platforms, and consumer engagement. She has published in top-tier journals like Journal of Marketing and Journal of Brand Management, and presented at conferences such as ANZMAC and EMAC.
Teaching expertise includes Foundational Marketing, Marketing Research, and Integrated Marketing Communications at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Notable awards include the 2023 Best Paper in Track (Macromarketing) and 2018 Sessional Teaching Award. She has secured $43,350 in grants, including projects on AI-assisted complainants and consumer smartphone distraction. Current supervision spans three doctoral students focusing on AI-driven pricing, post-purchase dissonance, and Indigenist tourism research.
Research highlights include exploring metaverse avatars’ impact on brand perception and rethinking Indigenous tourism frameworks through participatory methods.
