Margot Nishimura is Assistant Provost for Academic Engagement and Dean of Libraries at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). In these concurrent roles she provides leadership for The Fleet Library at RISD, the Nature Lab, the Center for Arts & Language, and Campus Exhibitions.

Her scholarly work focuses on medieval, Renaissance and American art, architecture, decorative arts and the history of the book. With over two decades of experience in museums, libraries and special collections, she has directed cross-disciplinary collaborations, fundraising and grant initiatives.
Previously she served as Director of Museums at the Newport Restoration Foundation (2017-), Deputy Director and Librarian at Brown University’s John Carter Brown Library, and Lecturer in RISD’s Department of Art History (now the Theory and History of Art and Design). She has also held positions at Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, the Getty Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
