Margareta Hedström is an Adjunct Professor of Orthopaedics at the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology at Karolinska Institutet since 1 July 2021. She is also a Consultant at Karolinska University Hospital, where her clinical and research work focuses on orthopaedic surgery and patient-centered care.

Research Interests center on hip fractures and arthrosis treatment. Her work demonstrates that early surgical intervention (within 24 hours) improves rehabilitation outcomes and reduces complications for hip-fracture patients. She investigates the heterogeneity of this patient group and advocates for individualized surgical methods and aftercare. Additionally, she conducts clinical studies evaluating functional outcomes and patient satisfaction following knee/hip prosthetics, comparing different interventions.
