Margaret Fahnestock

Margaret Fahnestock is an Associate Member at the McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering and affiliated with the Medical Sciences Graduate Program at McMaster University. Her research focuses on neurotrophic factors like NGF and BDNF, investigating their dysregulation in Alzheimer’s disease and autism through human postmortem brain tissue, transgenic mouse models, and cell culture approaches.

• Neurotrophin biosynthesis and regulation
• Neurodegenerative disease mechanisms
• Neurodevelopmental disorder pathology
• Neurotrophin signaling and trafficking

Publication Trends: Recent work spans Alzheimer's disease models, autism-related signaling pathways, and exercise-induced neuroplasticity, with technical emphasis on molecular dynamics simulations, epigenetic modulation, and retrograde axonal transport.
