Marek Pacukiewicz

Marek Pacukiewicz is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Culture Studies, University of Silesia in Katowice. He holds a doctorate, habilitation, and the title of Professor of the University of Silesia. His academic work is centered on cultural theory, the history of cultural anthropology, and the anthropological analysis of literature, particularly the works of Joseph Conrad.

His research interests are extensive and include the cultural anthropology of literature, cultural taxonomies, contemporary mythologies (such as the Yeti), the cultural landscape, and the anthropology of art. He has a particular focus on the cultural context of Polish and European mountaineering and has led significant research projects, such as Landscapes of Context, funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

His recent publications reveal a consistent thematic focus on the intersection of culture, literature, and anthropology. He frequently explores how cultural patterns are expressed in literary form and how anthropological concepts can be applied to literary analysis, particularly in the works of Conrad and Malinowski. His work also extends to the analysis of contemporary art projects, treating artistic creation as ethnographic material.

He is actively involved in the academic community, serving on the Main Board of the Polish Cultural Studies Society. He has engaged in academic outreach, including a workshop project with the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and participation in the Warsaw Conrad Festival.
