Mareike Gebhardt is a Professor at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Münster and holds a University Assistant (maternity leave replacement) position at the Center for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies at the University of Innsbruck. She co-leads the Gerda Henkel-funded research group ZivDem (Civil Sea Rescue as a Crystallization Point of Democratic Disputes) in collaboration with the University of Bonn.
- Research Focus: Political Theory, Radical Democracy, Poststructuralism, Postcolonial Theory, Feminist Political Science, Critical Migration and Border Regimes, Temporal Politics.
- Projects: DFG Network POPMAP on Poststructuralist Protest Research; Habilitation on Democratic Closure (2015-2023); Comparative Analysis of Hannah Arendt and Habermas.
Her recent work examines the Mediterranean border regime, feminist critiques of sovereignty, and interdisciplinary methodologies. She has been awarded fellowships from the Gerda Henkel Foundation, DAAD, and Emerging Talents Initiative. Due to formal restrictions, she cannot supervise student theses since March 2024.
Scientific awards include the Emerging Talents Initiative (2018/19), Postdoc Stipendium (2017/18), and Fellowships at the Bielefeld Center for Interdisciplinary Research (2023/24). Her publications span monographs, edited volumes, and articles on democratic theory, migration, and gender studies.
