About
Marcus Sefranek is a Research Fellow and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Nobre Lab within the Brain & Cognition research group at the Oxford Centre for Human Brain Activity (OHBA). He is completing his DPhil under Prof. Kia Nobre and Dr. Nahid Zokaei, supported by the British Research Council. His work focuses on understanding memory and attention dynamics in healthy aging and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, employing behavioral experiments and neuroimaging (sMRI/fMRI/PET).
- Education: BA&Sc in Honors Cognitive Science from McGill University.
- Labs: Nobre Lab (OHBA), affiliated with Linacre College.
His research investigates how forgetting mechanisms in aging differ from those in Alzheimer’s, exploring their impact on attentional processes. Previous work includes studies on subjective valuation in decision-making (Fellows Lab) and multi-modal PET imaging of Amyloid/Tau proteins in Alzheimer’s (Rosa-Neto Lab). His articles analyze neurobiological underpinnings of cognitive decline, decision-making in HIV populations, and contextual learning’s role in attentional control.
His studies bridge clinical neuroscience and cognitive theory, aiming to improve diagnostic tools for neurodegenerative diseases and refine models of subjective valuation. Current projects emphasize longitudinal neuroimaging to track biomarkers of cognitive health.
