Dr Marcus Morris is the Deputy Head of Department and Professor of History at Manchester Metropolitan University, specializing in British and European history from the 19th to early 20th centuries. He holds a PhD from Lancaster University (2011) and has been affiliated with Manchester Met since 2009. His research focuses on labor, social, cultural, and imperial histories, with a particular emphasis on class, race, and socialist movements.
He leads the War, Conflict and Society Research Group and has contributed to external reviews for journals like Historical Research and International Labor and Working-Class History. His teaching includes modules on 20th-century British history, and he supervises PhD students researching topics from socialist organizations to disabled ex-servicemen.
Dr Morris has held leadership roles including History Programme Leader and Schools’ Liaison Coordinator, and was awarded Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2016). His public engagement includes projects on young people’s experiences of World War I and the legacy of Magna Carta in British socialism.
