Marcus LiBrizzi

Marcus LiBrizzi is a Professor of English at the University of Maine at Machias, specializing in literary horror, dark fantasy, and historical fiction with a focus on Downeast Maine's gothic landscapes, which he describes as 'Transylvania by the sea.' His work bridges creative writing and scholarly research in folklore and the supernatural.

His publications consistently explore Maine's haunted heritage, with 'Lost Atusville' (2009) gaining national recognition for its examination of African American Revolutionary War settlements, while 'Haunted Islands' (2017) and 'Ghosts of Acadia' (2011) document supernatural folklore across coastal and Acadian regions. Several works have inspired television productions, including PBS documentaries and Weather Channel episodes.

As Managing Editor of the Library of Early Maine Literature, LiBrizzi leads collaborative scholarly projects producing critical editions of rare Maine texts, preserving regional literary heritage through editorial teams and academic partnerships.
