Prior to this, he served as Assistant/Associate Professor in Ecological Microbiology at the University of Bayreuth (2005-2016) and was a Visiting Scientist at the Department of Microbial Ecology, University of Vienna (2006). His research focuses on soil microbial ecology, microplastic degradation, and interkingdom interactions in terrestrial ecosystems.
Research Interests: Dr. Horn's work spans environmental microbiology, investigating microbial processes in soil systems, including:
- Microplastic biodegradation mechanisms
- Methane cycle interactions in soil
- Fungal virulence traits in plastic environments
- Earthworm gut microbiome dynamics
- Isopod-microbe symbiotic relationships
Editorial Roles: Currently serves as Associate Editor for Terrestrial Microbiology in Frontiers in Microbiology, emphasizing rigorous peer-review in soil microbial ecology domains.
