Marco Shappeck is a Professor in the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of North Texas at Dallas. He holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Illinois and focuses on the educational applications of sociolinguistic research in regions with significant language contact.

His research explores grammaticalization processes and theoretical frameworks for language variation and change. He has conducted extensive linguistic and ethnographic fieldwork in two key areas: Spanish-English speech communities in the U.S. Southwest and Spanish-Quichua bilingual communities in the Ecuadorian Andes. His collaborative projects examine how life stages and social identities influence language learning environments.
Dr. Shappeck teaches courses within the Applied English major, the Applied Linguistics minor, and the UNTD Core Curriculum, bridging academic linguistics with practical educational applications.
