About
Marco Sangermano is a Full Professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where he also serves as Director of the Study Center for the coordination of incoming and outgoing internationalization activities for students and teachers. His academic career spans over a decade with continuous involvement in the Materials Science and Technology doctoral program since 2011.
Dr. Sangermano's research focuses on photopolymerization techniques for developing advanced polymeric materials. His work encompasses three primary areas: creating functional polymer films with thermal and electrical conductivity properties; developing polymeric hydrogels for biomedical applications (tissue regeneration) and environmental uses (water pollutant removal); and preparing organic-inorganic hybrid materials. His expertise spans colloid chemistry, macromolecular chemistry, polymer chemistry, materials engineering, and sustainable design principles.
His scholarly contributions demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean water and sanitation) and 12 (Responsible consumption and production). Recent publications reveal a growing emphasis on bio-based materials, waste-derived resources, and circular economy approaches in polymer science.
- Principal Investigator for numerous competitive research projects from 2011-2028, including EU-funded H2020/Marie Curie initiatives and international collaborations
- Supervision of eight PhD students across multiple cycles (35th-40th) with research spanning sustainable polymers, additive manufacturing, and environmental applications
- Patents in composite propellant production, fiber optic sensors, and oil well technologies
Dr. Sangermano leads research activities in the Photopolymer Laboratory and Polymer Laboratory 1 within DISAT, as part of the GLANCE research group. His work bridges fundamental materials science with practical applications in environmental remediation, biomedical engineering, and sustainable manufacturing.
