Marcelo Augusto Ribeiro, MD, MSc, PhD, is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and serves as the Director of the International Outreach Initiative at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. He holds additional professorial appointments at United Arab Emirates University and Pontifical Catholic University (Brazil), where he mentors master's and PhD candidates in surgery. Dr. Ribeiro is a globally recognized trauma surgeon with leadership roles in the Panamerican Trauma Society and the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.
His education includes an MD from Pontifical Catholic University (1992), an MSc in Operative Techniques & Experimental Surgery (1997), and a PhD in Post-graduation in Operative Technique and Experimental Surgery (2000) from the Federal University of São Paulo.
Dr. Ribeiro's research focuses on advancing trauma care, with expertise in hemorrhagic shock, coagulopathy, REBOA, hepatopancreatobiliary trauma, frailty in surgical patients, and soft tissue infections. He integrates clinical practice with innovative educational methodologies to improve global surgical training.
His publications emphasize trauma resuscitation, geriatric trauma outcomes, surgical techniques, and global surgical disparities. Recent articles explore REBOA complications, frailty assessments in orthopedics, nanomedicine for infections, and damage control in resource-limited settings.
